In building a site for a friend, I used the opportunity to explore some new modules and tools in helping migrate date between different environments (meaning: from development to production).

Banish Boring!

Time. The precious commodity.

Applications spinning 'round. Applications spinning 'round. Facebook, twitter, myspace, email, friendfeed, flickr, youtube, rss feeds, message boards, so much to read, so much to reply to, so much to watch, everyone wants a bit of your time. Techcrunch posts a dozen new apps a day, "hey! Try us! We are the best thing ever! Sign up and give US all your time! We'll change your life! All in a simple interface!"

on the verge of panic again

on the verge of panic again
my instinct is to run
i hate this
but i need the gold
i need to glamor
so i stick it through
lunch i brought is making me sick
find myself in a loop of misunderstanding and confusion
oh wait, now I remember.
give me a moment
give me a moment so the synapses fire.
my brain ain't so young as yours
takes me a while to get revved up.
and i want to drift off, and stare at you in confusion

you are ruining my concentration
you ruined our conversation
you are ruining my consternation
and that makes us very anxious.

Can someone explain the value of eBay to me?

Tagged:

I don't get eBay. Wasn't ebay at one point supposed to be a place to get a good deal? Maybe it's the stuff I search for, but ebay is overrun by people who overprice and overcharged for shipping and "handling". The only value I can see in ebay these days is to gauge what stuff is going for (albeit overpriced), especially with "completed listings".

I've had numerous instances, especially with music equipment, video games, and CD's, where I've found MUCH better deals on Craigslist, niche message boards, or Amazon.com. So what use is ebay then? I don't get it...

No dairy

My new years resolution is to cut back on dairy. Jet's cousin is on a diet that she cut out all dairy and lost A LOT of weight. That probably wasn't the only contributing factor in the diet, but a big one from what I hear.

I'm not going vegan, I will still eat meat, though, I'm not a big red meat person, but only cutting back (as much as I knowingly can) on dairy.

It's actually fun to try to figure out non-dairy meals. Instead of cream cheese, I can have peanut butter and jelly on my bagel. Instead of mayonnaise and cheese on my sandwich, I can put hummus and so on.

Secret to Great Songwriting

Can't tell you the amount of letters and telegrams I get asking this. So we hired a crew and recorded the following informational video:

Mike Watt + Secondmen at Juke Joint in Anaheim, December 6, 2008

large_IMG_0900_0.jpg And last night ended my Mike Watt + Secondmen binge, at least for this month. They started SUPER late due to lallygagging open bands. They played their usual set, plus one encore that unfortunately I hit my wall and had to leave so I wouldn't fall asleep while driving.

Mike Watt + The Secondmen and Tijuana Knife Fight at Harold's Place, San Pedro, December 5, 2008

"Start your own band!" Watt yells into the mic, bass held high above his head, finishing off another scorching Secondmen set, this time at Harold's Place in their hometown of San Pedro. There was no cover, beer was cheap, no stage, shitty P.A., but the rock was real and blissful.

Wait, seeing Mike Watt in Pedro? Holy cow. I MUST be dreaming...

Mike Watt + The Secondmen at the Prospector - November 29, 2008

Dragged myself out of the house last night to throw myself into a tiny crowded bar, The Prospector, to see Mike Watt + The Secondmen play a scorching, albeit brief set. Glad I got to go. Watt is an idol of mine since the mid-80's when discovering the whole SST Records scene and I can't believe here I am in 2008 seeing him bang away on his thund3rstick in this intimate venue.
