Applications spinning 'round. Applications spinning 'round. Facebook, twitter, myspace, email, friendfeed, flickr, youtube, rss feeds, message boards, so much to read, so much to reply to, so much to watch, everyone wants a bit of your time. Techcrunch posts a dozen new apps a day, "hey! Try us! We are the best thing ever! Sign up and give US all your time! We'll change your life! All in a simple interface!"
So many sites that want the user's attention, time, and energy. Why? Only one getting any value out of this is YOU! Chances are, I ain't ever coming back. No, I'm not going to be treated like an underling, work for a few hours to craft some wiki-ish entry and HOPE you'll accept. You want me as a user? Pay me a million bucks. I'll use you all day.
Truth be told, I'm burned out. Coding html and css all day long, being a web grunt, the grass is always greener somewhere else, find myself alt-tabbing back to twitter, trying to catch up on the lastest BUZZ, only to be left feeling empty, less-than-satisfied.
Hey look! Yet-another-music-video social app nonsense. This one is backed by "the labels"? That's pretty much a guarantee of failure. No, I won't even look at it anymore. I'll wait for that still-ever-so-important "word of mouth". Maybe I used to be an early adopter, maybe I was just kidding myself when I thought I had any sort of geek "edge", but I don't want clutter, static, noise. No
This isn't sticky, I forgot I had a a login for this one. Anyone else not quite understand OpenID? Keep meaning to read up on that one, but somehow I just don't plain care. At the end of the day, I just want to be left alone, want more time to play guitar, sit in the backyard and just listen to everything around me. You know why I like Macs so much? 'Cause they ain't fussy. Apple makes tasks (comparitively) quick and easy, effortless, seamless, UNOBTRUSIVE, let's us get on with the rest of our lives.
And really, this is the side effect of web 2.0: Social network fatigue. People are less impressed, tired, less-than-fullfilled. Here's a suggestion. Turn of the computer. Go outside.
